Heart
The earliest use of the heart motif in jewellery dates back to the late Medieval period, when rings, brooches and other romantic tokens were often inscribed with short love poems. It rose in popularity dramatically in the 19th century; Queen Victoria possessed many heart-shaped jewels, including a charm bracelet which featured a heart for each of her children. Her styles were prolifically emulated. Now, the heart is a universal symbol of love, both romantic and platonic, and used accordingly.
